The only French officers who had speaking parts in that episode were General Scruffy and Colonel Crazycakes, right? Those are some pretty high ranks.

So remember when the French soldiers decided that “disembarkation” meant “swimmy fun time?” And how Edrington was Not Amused?

Posit a more junior French officer who (this is going to sound filthy no matter how I say it, I just give up) appropriately disciplined the soldiers who were goofing off, and Edrington spoke to him later and was all “at least ONE officer in this lot has any idea what he’s doing,” and… you can take it from there.

And then the next morning there’s a bite mark that his collar doesn’t QUITE cover.

Oops.

Edrington/Competent Frenchie. He could have been one of the other officers at dinner? Then he would have witnessed Edrington’s attempts to be diplomatic after Horatio flounced off…
